Welcome to the blog of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at HCA Healthcare Riverside Community Hospital. Founded to improve the health of our community, our program supports up to 17 categorical positions each year, maintaining a complement of 50 residents. Backed by the HCA Healthcare network, we ensure clinical education, academic excellence, and trainee well-being remain our top priorities. Our alumni consistently demonstrate a strong track record of professional success. Many of our graduates remain dedicated to the Inland Empire, choosing to practice at regional hospitals and clinics, while others secure competitive subspecialty fellowships across the country.
The Inland Empire faces a well-documented physician shortage, often resulting in a highly diverse patient population presenting with advanced clinical pathology. Riverside Community Hospital operates as a busy tertiary referral center equipped to manage major acute conditions, including myocardial infarction, stroke, sepsis, and trauma. We balance this rigorous inpatient acuity with robust ambulatory training through partnerships with highly recognized local clinics. To empower our residents to actively improve patient outcomes at a systemic level, we also feature a dedicated population health curriculum.
We provide individualized pathways via specialized tracks such as Hospital Medicine, Primary Care, POCUS, Medical Education, and Palliative Care. To maximize the resident experience, we support these pathways with robust academic and technological resources:
- Academic Affiliations: As a major clinical rotation site for the University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine, residents have direct opportunities to teach and mentor medical students. Furthermore, our partnership with City of Hope offers specialized, oncology-focused training for motivated residents.
- Advanced Training Technology: Inpatient teams utilize dedicated hand-held ultrasounds for real-time medical decision-making. Our simulation labs feature high-fidelity mannequins and task trainers for procedural proficiency (central lines, intubation, paracentesis, and joint injections), while virtual reality modules optimize intern onboarding and refine complex communication skills like end-of-life discussions.
- Research Infrastructure: Trainees benefit from a dedicated research department equipped with data analysts, statisticians, and comprehensive IRB assistance, allowing them to maintain a consistent presence at regional and national subspecialty meetings.
Whether you are a colleague, a community member, or a prospective applicant, we welcome you to our site and are proud to empower our trainees to achieve exceptional readiness for fellowship and clinical practice.
